Air Europa: 10 Years Madrid-Asunción Link, Record Figures

Air Europa commemorates the 10th anniversary of its Madrid-Asunción route with record figures: over 202,000 passengers in 2025 and growth forecast for 2026.

On December 16, 2015, Air Europa conducted the inaugural flight of its connection between Madrid-Barajas Airport and Asunción, the capital of Paraguay. Ten years later, the airline celebrates this anniversary with its best historical figures and the forecast to continue raising its results for the 2026 fiscal year, both in flights and in seat offerings and passengers transported.

Throughout 2025, the airline will have carried out 675 flights between both destinations, representing almost a 15% increase compared to the previous year. After increasing activity to a daily frequency since last June, the seat offering has exceeded 221,000, which is a 16% increase compared to 2024. This has allowed more than 202,000 people to fly with Air Europa on this route this year, 19% above the figure recorded in the previous period and with an occupancy of 91%, demonstrating the high existing demand.

Air Europa, which will maintain its daily operations in 2026, plans to increase its flights between Madrid and Asunción by 8%. This will allow the seat offering to expand to more than 247,000.

The opening of the route to Paraguay represented a key milestone for the country. Since 1994 and after 21 years without direct flights with Madrid, the start of operations with Air Europa opened new opportunities for tourism and business. Likewise, it reinforced the company's leadership position in the Caribbean region, from which it began its expansion into other South American countries. From the two weekly frequencies with which activity began, it would subsequently move to triangulation with the Argentine city of Córdoba, progressively increasing frequencies. Since 2023, Air Europa has resumed direct flights between Madrid and the capital of Paraguay, and since June of last year, it has connected both cities daily.

In this decade, Air Europa has operated more than 4,400 flights, transporting almost 1.2 million passengers across the Atlantic. With an average occupancy that has historically been around 88%, the route is covered by the Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, one of the most advanced and efficient models in its category.

To commemorate the tenth anniversary of Air Europa's operations in Paraguay, the airline is holding an event today in the Gardens of the Residence of the Spanish Ambassador in the Republic of Paraguay, which will be attended by Air Europa's Commercial Director, Imanol Pérez; the Regional Director for America, Karim Balarezo; the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay, Rubén Ramírez; the Minister of Tourism, Angie Duarte; and the president of the National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DINAC), Nelson Mendoza, among other Paraguayan authorities, members of the diplomatic corps, suppliers, and representatives of travel agencies in the country. This meeting will not only celebrate ten years of the route but also the positive impact that its inception and evolution have had on the integration and growth of the airline sector in Paraguay.
