Air Europa Cargo secures IATA CEIV Pharma certification
Air Europa Cargo obtains IATA CEIV Pharma certification for the safe transport of pharmaceuticals between Europe and Latin America.
Following successful completion of the accreditation process, Air Europa Cargo has obtained IATA CEIV Pharma certification. This demanding quality standard distinguishes airlines that adequately comply with both national and international processes and regulations for managing air cargo shipments for the pharmaceutical sector.
Achieving CEIV Pharma certification represents significant support for Air Europa's business unit's efforts to continue elevating the excellence of its services. In the specific case of pharmaceutical shipments, they represent an increasingly relevant business line, whose importance has grown in recent years due to the impact of the pandemic. Since then, air transport has demonstrated its key role in the distribution of healthcare products. Shipments in this category require special preservation and handling conditions that Air Europa Cargo can address with full assurance.
Thanks to this accreditation, Air Europa Cargo becomes one of the main options for transporting pharmaceutical products between Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean, establishing a direct and secure connection for this purpose. In fact, the company is the only one offering this service from the continent for countries such as Paraguay, Honduras, or Bolivia, which is already generating high demand on both sides of the Atlantic.
Over recent years, the company has consistently consolidated and increased the volume of transported cargo, exceeding 266,100 tons since 2020. In 2024, the figure of 60,500 tons was reached, a key factor in which has been having a fleet composed of aircraft with high storage capacity in the hold, such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner for long-haul flights and the Boeing 737 for short and medium-haul destinations.
In the case of healthcare products, and to help airlines adapt their procedures to the requirements established in accordance with the indications of the pharmaceutical industry, IATA created the Center of Excellence for Independent Validators (CEIV), which is responsible for carrying out the audits that grant CEIV Pharma certification. Thanks to this, a common base of norms and standards has been established and consolidated, contributing to ensuring regulatory compliance, as well as safeguarding the integrity of pharmaceutical products.
