Santo Domingo Bay

Santo Domingo Bay is the Globalia Hotels all-inclusive resort in Boca Chica, on the southern coast of the Dominican Republic. Facing a calm-water bay and backed by its own private sand beach, it brings together around 350 rooms and suites, six dining venues, a spa, a fitness centre open around the clock, a casino and a convention centre for nine hundred guests. It is rated five stars, and its brand line says it plainly: Convention Resort & Casino.

What really sets it apart is where it sits. Las Américas International Airport is ten minutes away by road and the historic centre of Santo Domingo around thirty-five, so a traveller can land at midday and be on the beach before lunch, or close a convention in the morning and walk the colonial city that same afternoon. It is an unusual combination in the Caribbean: immediate cosmopolitan access alongside the quiet of a sheltered bay.

The hotel is not new. It opened in 1950 as Hotel Hamaca, designed by the architect Guillermo González, and spent decades as one of the emblems of the Dominican golden age. In 2025 it reopened as Santo Domingo Bay, keeping the memory of that house and putting it to work inside a contemporary resort. That double nature, restored icon and fully operating complex, is what defines its character today.
